Top 10 Kickass Female Characters (in TV and Movies)

I have a habit of DVRing movies over the weekend to watch in the weekday mornings since TV is so sparse right now.  This morning was dedicated to Resident Evil, and it got me thinking about my Top 10 Badass Women in TV and Movies!

10) Sidney Bristow from “Alias”

Jennifer Garner as Sidney Bristow

I’ll be honest, this is a series I really need to get back into.  I watched this show for a few seasons as a teenager and LOVED it!  Sidney is a kick ass spy, and she lead the way for more amazing, strong, female characters in TV.  Also, I wanted all of her costumes…

9) Katniss Everdeen from “The Hunger Games”

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

Katniss is the hot female character of the summer.  She kicks some ass, winning the 74th Annual Hunger games, after volunteering for the games after her sister, Prim, was chosen.  Women who protect family, and can shoot one hell of an arrow?  Awesome in our book!  Also, check out my full review of Katniss here: http://stateofthelinds.wordpress.com/2012/06/07/30-days-of-blogging-day-7/

8) Annie Walker from “Covert Affairs”

Piper Perabo as Annie Walker

“Cover Affairs” has to be my dirty little secret/guilty pleasure show each summer.  Obviously a take off of Sidney Bristow, Annie is fresh, fun, and can kick or shoot with the best of them.  It doesn’t hurt that her supporting cast is amazing (and downright attractive) with Christopher Gorham and Sendhil Ramamurthy.  Annie’s cover is also equally cool, she works at the Smithsonian!

7) Debra Morgan from “Dexter”

Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan

I fucking love Deb, if only for her liberal use of the word “fuck”.  Sister of the most divine serial killer on the planet, Dexter, Deb is all about the black and white, what is right and wrong. She’s also something of an un-sung genius in the way that she solves crimes (sometimes with Dexter’s help).  Deb is pull of piss, vinegar, and a healthy dose of “I don’t give a fuck”, and yet still has a tender side every now and then.  It will be interesting to see how the new season plays out with her new….knowledge!

6) Fiona Glenanne from “Burn Notice”

Gabrielle Anwar as Fionna Glenanne

Honestly, who doesn’t love a woman who loves to blow shit up?!  Fiona is former IRA agent who knows more about explosives and guns then anyone else on TV.  Her underworld connections are vast, and she toes the line very well between hard and soft really well.  She doesn’t need to be one of the boys, she shows that women can kick ass perfectly well all on their own.

5) Faith from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”

Eliza Dushku as Faith

Faith is one of my most favorite Joss Whedon characters, ever.  She’s the Anti-Buffy, and she actually revels in it.  She’s the “bad-slayer”,  and goes to the dark places that we always wished that Buffy would.  Her moral compass progressively lowered through out season 3 of BtVS (and her amazing relationship with the Mayor), and eventually gains some redemption in season 7.  She’s seriously flawed, and that is what makes her more interesting in many ways then the other characters.  Faith moves outside the bounds of society, and we’re jealous!

4) Zoe Washburne from  “Firefly” and “Serenity”

Gina Torres as Zoe Washburne

The thing that kicks ass the most about Zoe?  Her dry sense of humor, which is a perfect pairing to super cool nerd, Wash (her husband).  She follows orders to a T from Captain Malcom Reynolds (who she fought with in the battle of Serenity), and has serious bouts of sass.  She’s slightly understated in the shows, and that is what makes her stand out.  Zoe does what needs doing, and while sometimes a bit robotic, it is her interactions with Wash that really balances the character out.

3) Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace from  “Battlestar Gallactica”

Katee Sackhoff as Kara Thrace

She drinks men under the table.  She smokes cigars.  She has sex like men.  She also flys a Raptor better then any other person in the fleet.  If you don’t think Starbuck kicks ass then you need to stop reading right now!  She is also completely fucked up, and fucks up often.  Starbuck is not indestructible, err….well, maybe just once in the show.  Otherwise, her flaws out number her virtues, and I am still wondering if she isn’t somehow part Cylon.  With the BSG re-boot there was a lot of hoopla about making Starbuck a woman, and I think she set every straight.  Why do you need a man when you have one kick ass woman?

2) Buffy Summers from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers

Yes, Buffy is #2.  Calm down.  Breathe into a paper bag and listen.  Buffy is…well….Buffy.  She’s the ONE TRUE SLAYER.  A long line of women chosen to kick ass.  She died, twice.  And Saved the World…A LOT.

1) Alice from “Resident Evil”

Milla Jovovich as Alice

Alice is a product of an experiment with the T-Virus from the Umbrella Company. She’s stronger and faster, and does some AMAZING shit like ride a motorcycle through Cathedral rose windows!  And why does she beat Buffy on my list, you ask?  She doesn’t whine.  She just gets shit done.  Every move has a changed Alice through more Umbrella testing which makes her more deadly and her character more compelling.  Word on the web is that they’re doing another movie, and I for one would be quite excited!  More Alice, please!

Who is your favorite female badass?
