The League has spoken: Patriotic pop culture
http://coolandcollected.com/the-league-has-spoken-patriotic-pop-culture/
The assignment for the week asked what gets your patriotic juices pumping. Every week, I am pleasantly surprised by the thought and creativity that goes into the responses. None of us went for the obvious big ones, such as Red Dawn, Saving Private Ryan, orBand of Brothers (but I wanted to!). Here is what makes the League proud to be American…
- The Green Plastic Squirtgun cheers for Team America!
- Adamotomy loves the rocket’s red glare.
- Branded in the 80′s salutes some Real American Heros.
- Infinite Hollywood, in true American fashion, selected someone who carries around a big stick.
- Shezcrafti sums it up nicely: Fu*k Yeah, America!
- Flashlights are Something to Eat rally loves Living in America. Heh!
- Cool & Collected gets down with some Real Americans.
- Whatever I Think Of is preparing some star spangled sandwiches.
- The Man who Stares at Toys prefers his patriotic propaganda wearing an eyepatch.
- Life with Fandom likes a good speech. when he celebrates Independence Day.
- Q the Adult is another big fan of speeches on Independence Day.
- Geek It Til It Hurts would like to thank Private Gump and Lieutenant Dan fortheir service.
- Who needs John Philip Sousa when we have Rediscover the 80s’ playlist.
- Movie Hodgepodge’s movie list soars like the Blue Angels.
- Team Hellions knows a true American hero when he sees one. (Whoah, I wrote about wrestling and Kevin didn’t!?)
- Jason Vorhee’s Blog has cheered for fictional and Real American Heroes all his life.
Thanks for participating everyone! I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July holiday this week! NOTE: We will take a break this week, so rest up for the League’s triumphant return on July 9.
Don’t forget, if you sign up for the Cool & Collected email newsletter, you will get a reminder on Mondays about the League topics and results.

The League has confessed. Forgive us.
Original article at:
http://coolandcollected.com/the-league-has-confessed-forgive-us/
Wow, this week really opened up some cans of worms, and I loved every minute of it! Some thoughts: 1. There might be a couple of Brony’s in our midst. 2. Dr. Who could very well tear this League apart. 3. There were New Monkees.
I’m waiting for the doors to burst wide open as jack booted thugs haul one of us away for reprogramming. Here’s what transpired…
- Michael at Memories of Toymorrow prefers real guns to virtual ones.
- The Surfing Pizza finally signed on and is an utter failure at saving princesses.
- Tim at Flashlights are Something to Eat has a deep, dark guilty pleasure.
- Chris at Tupa’s Treasure probably surprised me the most this week.
- I think Ashley at Life with Fandom’s confession may have cost him a friend.
- Reis at the Lair of the Dork Horde likes ewoks! Get him! (Oh, and there’s a bunch of other stuff there, too.)
- Flywheels at Random Toy Reviews wants you to open your friggin’ toys!
- Headline from 2022: The Claymation Werewolf was a quiet neighbor–kept to himself mostly–until…
- Michael May’s Adventure Blog likes his Heroes… unless they’re a cute blonde, wielding a wooden stake.
- Adam is The Man who Stares at Toys, and he slept with Gizmo! Gasp!
- Fong at Haxbee is a fraud! Grab the pitchforks!
- Fiji Mermaid at Sideshow Cinema took a torch to the longest running animated show of all time…and Pixar! What?
- While Brian at Cool & Collected turns in his geek badge along with his phaser set for stun.
- Flywheels tries to talk Iok, from That Figures, off the ledge after his confession. (Jump! Jump! Jump!)
- This week on Hoarders: Kevin at Team Hellions gets buried by a pile of unread books and unwatched DVDs.
- Jamie at Whatever I Think Of joins this week and confesses to never seeingthe Hills. You’re not alone, Jamie. It’s gonna be okay.
- Stacey at Pendragon’s Post takes on some big Comic book artists (but she gets two points for her Star Trek apathy).
Oof, that was a painful, gut-wrenching week for the League but if it hasn’t killed us, it has certainly made us stronger, right? Hello?
The next assignment will be posted later today, and if you sign up for my e-Newsletter, you’ll receive the League topic right in your inbox.

The League has spoken: When we were 12…
“What would you do if I sang out of tune…”
What a great week for the League! We took a nostalgic, often painful, look back at the last official year of our childhood. We covered the 80′s pretty well, and even touched on the early 90′s…
- 1982: Dex at AEIOU and Sometimes Why, andLefty Limbo
- 1984: Brian at Cool & Collected (part 1 – part 2), Reis at the Lair of the Dork Horde
- 1985: Mike at Memories of Toymorrow
- 1988: Tim at Flashlights are Something to Eat
- 1990: Kevin at Team Hellions (Four parts: Music, TV, Muppets, andComics), Shawn at Branded in the 80′s, and Stacy at Pendragon’s Post
- 1992: The Claymation Werewolf
- 1993: Ashley at Life with Fandom
So many amazing memories, but I think Claymation Werewolf wins this week with the revelation that he married his childhood sweetheart.

Around the League
Some other things that caught my eye on League member sites this week…
- Check out this awesome Buffalo Bill skateboard design by Lefty Limbo.
- I hit the first yard sales of the season.
- Reis got to go to a toy show.
- Tim braved the crowds on Record Store Day.
- Two League members got to hang out with each other AND go to a toy show. (jealous).
Team Hellions is proud to count themselves among the League of Extraordinary Bloggers. Started by Brian over at CoolandCollected.com the League is a loose organization of geeky sites. Like the NWA of blogging. Every week there is a nerdy topic and each League member gives his or her answer. We then discover each other’s sites and get to be good online friends. Here is a link to the weekly topics and every League member’s site.
The League has spoken: Prized Possessions
There were some really amazing items hauled out of the closets this week as we discussed our prized possessions. This week’s topic asked what you would save if your house was about to have a starring role in John Cusack’s 2012, or a similar disaster.
- Charles at Geek Show Ink saved an amazing piece of original art.
- Bubba Shelby at Toyriffic hopped on his sweet ride and got out of town…
- …and Lefty Limbo was right there with him, pedaling like he had E.T. in his basket.
- Flywheels joined the League and goes into robot salvage mode.
- Ashley at Life with Fandom is taking a little muscle with him.
- Shawn at Branded in the 80′s is rescuing his childhood companion.
- TL at Flashlights Are Something to Eat, finally explains the name of his site with his sentimental save.
- Brian at Cool & Collected is scaling tall buildings with a gorilla in one fist and a spaceman in the other.
- Fong at Haxbee joined the League and kicked things off with an epic save.
- Jon at Double Dumbass on You has nothing to fear, because he’s bringing along his old pal, Jack.
- As usual, Kevin at Team Hellions is kicking ass and taking names–er, autographs.
- Jason Vorhees’ Blog is getting the old gang back together and getting out of Dodge.
- Reis at the Lair of the Dorke Horde is grabbing his doll and jumping in the station wagon.
- And Mike at the Sexy Geek’s House of Swag is grabbing the autograph of some guy named George Herman Ruth Jr.
So many great treasures!
Around the League
Some other things that caught my eye on League member sites this week…
- I think Charles at Geek Show Ink likes ducks as much as I like King Kong.
- Have you been introduced to Toyriffic’s Catwoman Purrsday yet?
- Ashley at Life with Fandom had some luck at the flea market.
- “Wax Paper Pop Art” makes its triumphant return to Branded in the 80′s.
- I had a bad experience buying a toy for my kids.
- Fong at Haxbee is really trying to make me jealous.
- This album cover I saw over at Team Hellions is truly going to fuel my nightmares.
- I am convinced that Reis O’Brien at the Lair of the Dork Horde is the hardest working blogger I know. He makes the rest of us look lazy.
The League has Spoken: Holy Grails and White Whales
This was another epic week for the League–I laughed, I cried, I read the posts again and again. This week’s topic asked what about your collecting holy grails and white whales, and the responses illustrate how a single little object can have a big impact on one’s life. I especially enjoyed reading about childhood adventures filled with excitement and loss, and I hope as a result of these posts, at least one of us League members will finally be able to track down his or her white whale…
- TL at Flashlights are Something to Eat keeps educating us on the underground collecting circuit of Mister Rogers toys.
- I seriously want to go over to the Sexy Geek’s House of Swag and play withhis toys.
- Reis at the Lair of the Dork Horde had a list straight out of the childhood of any boy born in the 70′s. (I want them all!)
- Ashley at Life with Fandom is on the lookout for an epic plastic playset.
- Tommy at Top Hat Sasquatch joined the League this week and has two ambitious toy lines in his sights.
- Jasonvorhee’s Blog also joined the League this week and Jason writes about his quest for some great 80′s toys.
- As usual, Brian at Cool & Collected is on a quest for a giant gorilla.
- Charles at Geek Show Ink is looking for some incredible original comic art.
- Eric at Toyriffic is looking for Godzilla’s flying pal.
- Paxton at the Cavalcade of Awesome gets two bonus points for mentioning the Misfits of Science in his list of holy grails.
- Lefty Limbo brought a tear to my eye with his tale of just missing his white whale.
- Kevin at Team Hellions really likes books and magazines with scantily-clad oily men (and really, who doesn’t?).
- Stacey at Pendragon’s Post is living the dream while looking for a Wonder Woman’s super foe.
- Jason at I Fart Online is looking for some candy that comes in a big, mean, and green dispenser.
- Brad at Sideshow Cinema is hoping to find a creepy Halloween mask at a yard sale (but only of it has dreadlocks).
- Jeff at Siftin’ tells a great childhood tale–one that continues to this day with his quest for that one last action figure.
This week’s responses were too much fun. Someone needs to hold me in check or else I might have this as a recurring topic EVERY week!
Around the League
Some other things that caught my eye on League member sites this week…
- Mike at the Sexy Geek’s House of Swag has been adding to his collection ofautographed memorabilia.
- Reis has so many great toys, and I love these windup robots.
- Ashley at Life with Fandom was sitting on the other side of the table at a recent toy show.
- Listen to the latest Nerd Lunch podcast and hear the “Nerd Heritage” of fellow League members, Paxton and CT.
- …and I found out what 500 board games looked like at a local consignment shop.
The League has spoken: Everything’s better with Michael Bay
KABOOOOM!! This week’s assignment asked what Michael Bay should blow up after he’s done with the Teenage Ninja Turtles movie. As always, the League delivered…
- Chris Tupa was brave enough to admitting to enjoying MB films, and would like to see more. Some of his ideas don’t sound that crazy!
- The Claymation Werewolf was so excited for this week’s topic, that he actually wrote his response last November. (He must have a Delorean with a flux capacitor in his garage.)
- Brian at Cool & Collected thinks Michael Bay would have had an interesting take on hit films of the 80′s.
- Ashley at Life with Fandom has an idea that actually sounds pretty cool. Bay couldn’t screw up a cartoon could he? oh wait.
- Dex at AEIOU and Sometimes Why had another concept that might actually work under the skilled tutelage of Michael Bay.
- John at the Revenge of the Cosmic Ark wants to see how Bay handles somepoppin’ and lockin’.
- Kevin at Team Hellions figures MB would be the perfect fit for a wrestling movie (but I’m not sure America could handle that much testosterone).
- Jeff at Siftin’ came up with a Plan for a classic remake where Ed Wood meets Michael Bay. (brain. hurts.)
- And finally, I guarantee that Tom at Freak Studios did more research than anyone else for his response.
Around the League
Some other things that caught my eye on League member sites this week…
- Be sure to check out Chris Tupa’s awesome illustration of Optimus Prime putting Michael Bay in his place, and his new Big Trouble in Little China art.
- Brian at Cool & Collected has been playing with his toys again, and taken some fun pictures. (Is it weird that I talk about myself in thrid person for these posts?)
- Ashley at life with Fandom has something VERY cool in the works.I’ll put up a full post later, but for now check out his new video series.
- You gotta see this Elvis dog over on Revenge from the Cosmic Ark.
- Team Hellions has been bringing the pain all week for the wrestling fans.
The League has spoken: Zombie Apocalypse
This week’s League topic had some of the best responses yet! The assignment asked who you would want beside you during the zombie apocalypse, and the variety of answers was awesome, even though Kate Beckinsale didn’t show up. Every week, I am so impressed and amused by everyone’s answers, but this time around, there were some absolute gems…
- Christopher Tupa had an inspired pick. I just hope all those gold chains don’t attract the zombies’ attention.
- Ashley at Life with Fandom thinks the zombies are just the first wave in an alien attack, so he has chosen his partner wisely.
- Brian at Cool & Collected will gladly cower behind a macho man when the zombies attack.
- Jason at I Fart Online picked a doctor to be by his side. (No, not THAT doctor.)
- John at the Revenge from the Cosmic Ark had the brilliant idea to spend the apocalypse with a beautiful woman (and her machine gun leg).
- Iok at That Figures had an amusing choice, but I would get tired of constantly hearing. “Where’s Carl?”
- Reis at the lair of the Dorke Horde has chosen a character who the zombies wouldn’t even hear coming.
- Dex at AEIOU and Sometimes Why chose an entire zombie fighting team.
- Mike at the Sexy Geek chose an appropriately named guy to challenge the undead.
- Kevin at Team Hellions picked some nerdy guy I’ve never heard of, and is probably going to regret his decision.
- Jeremy at Geek Chunks shows off his mad Photoshop skills with his zombie fighting companion.
- Jeff at Siftin’ had a wonderful pick this week.
- Fiji Mermaid at Sideshow Cinema chose an indestructable ally.
- And Tom at Freak Studios went a different route and selected the slow fat kid.
I gotta say, Tom’s selection criteria had me laughing pretty good, and Jeremy’sPhotoshopped entry was genius.
